{May 31, 2012} What Is The World Coming Too …

Ever since I went to work yesterday I have been hearing nothing but bizarre stories about various acts of cannibalism and people disemboweling themselves. I mean at first I thought my co-worker was trying to play some kind of joke because he is always telling me crazy – off the wall – zany stuff … like 6 years old being suspended from school for singing the LMFAO song I’m Sexy and I Know It. Okay that I can laughing along with as just plain goofiness but when he said yesterday to me “Did you hear about the naked man who ate some dude’s face?” I thought he was making it up because we where just talking about when does Season 3 of the Walking Dead start. So how am I, a person with above average intelligence (at least among those I work with) even attempt to process this??? Well, it lead to the infamous go to man when anyone needs proof … GOOGLE. And sure enough he was telling the truth. I was so distraught the rest of the night that I couldn’t even enjoying reading. Can you believe it??? Me! Not being able to seat down and enjoy my book because I could make my thoughts kept coming back to a naked Miami man’s actions. Now all over Facebook my cousin has been posting all kinds of similar stories and people are making jokes about zombies attacking due to bath salts! I’m sorry but I don’t think it’s right that people are out there making jokes about these occurrences. This is a serious problem that they need to address. How can the people pushing this new drug on others continue to do so knowing the horrible after effects that take place once this drug is ingested??? My skin is still crawling!

Real-life Hannibal Lecter …

On Saturday May 26th 31 year old Rudy Eugene (right) attacked and mutilated 65 year old Ronald Poppo (left) for over 18 minutes before police arrived to offer assistance to rectify the situation that was happening in broad daylight!

According to the CBS Miami … The incident was captured by a surveillance camera on the nearby Miami Herold building and here is a brief of their report …
Rudy Eugene walked naked alongside the MacArthur Causeway before pouncing on a homeless man he found dozing in the shade of the elevated Metromover train tracks.

For almost 18 grisly minutes, Eugene savaged his victim, punching him and stripping the man’s pants before gnawing off the homeless man’s face — all as cars and cyclists rolled by on the busy causeway on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

The new details of the horrific attack were captured in additional video footage taken by security cameras at the nearby Miami Herald building.

At least five passersby, including a Road Ranger from the Florida Department of Transportation, called police to report what they saw of the macabre scene. Three bicyclists pedaled by the two bloody men in the minutes before the arrival of Miami police officer Jose Rivera, who shot and killed Eugene to end the attack, the new footage shows. The shooting itself was obstructed in the video, and the officer appeared to shoot Eugene within a minute of arriving.

Jersey Gets Stuck by Craziness …

More craziness in the world took place in Hackensack, New Jersey when a 43 year old Wayne Carter allegedly cut out his entrails in front of police and then threw bits of his flesh and intestines at them. According to CBS New York the gruesome scene played out on Sunday evening when received a call stating a man was threatening to stab himself. When the police entered the residence, Carter stood up and started to shout frantically at police, then proceeded to stab himself all over his body … leaving 50 wounds along his legs, abdomen and neck. After several attempts to persuade the man to drop his knife two cans a pepper spray were used to try and subdue the man resulting with no effect. So my thought for you is was Carter dipping in the bath salt craze that has hit the screen in Miami like Eugene or was this incident a merely case of the crazies??? Apparently me and Lt. Heinemann share similar thoughts because his statement in the article said that he believes that drugs or mental illness may have led to the horrific incident, but those details haven’t been confirmed.

Maryland Crime Beat – Cannibalism …

This is a similar case like the above Miami occurrence but much more closer to home for my taste. According to The Baltimore Sun … today the 21 year old Morgan State student Alexander Kinyua (left) was charged for not only dismembering his roommate 37 year old Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie (right) but consumed parts of his brain and heart as well. They state that … this case comes on the heels of shocking incidents in cities like Miami, where a naked man believed to be high on bath salts ate another man’s face, and New Jersey, where a man disemboweled himself and reportedly threw his intestines at police officers. Police there say they aren’t sure whether the man, Wayne Carter, was on drugs or suffering from mental illness. After reading the whole article I can not be sure if Kinyua was an active participant in the highly crazed drug “Bath Salts” or if he was merely an stable individual with some severely deep-seeded issues.

Martinez, a husband and father of two, was engaged in a threesome with a friend and another woman who was not his wife a week after having an appointment at Cardiovascular Group in Lawrenceville for chest pains that were radiating into his arm resulting in his death on March 12, 2009. A test was scheduled for eight days later, but the day before the test he decided to engage in the extramarital hanky panky, according to reports.

Sex tape of student plays at graduation ceremony in Denmark, shocking audience! The thought initially made me chuckle at first but then I thought about the embarrassment that was felt by the student and the his parents. But apparently during graduation a student in Denmark shared much more about his high school experience with his family and friends than he ever anticipated, when a videotape of him having sex was played during his school’s graduation festivities.

But instead of using body paint, 35-year-old Enrique dos Santos opted for an industrial paint the military uses on ballistic missiles and nuclear submarines, local papers reported. And while the hapless Dos Santos, known in the town of Vila Cruzeiro as MC Marronzinho, was aiming for the Hulk — he wound up looking more like a sorry Shrek.

It took 24 hours of scrubbing by his frantic mother as well as countless friends before they were able to return Dos Santos to something close to his normal color. As if that wasn’t embarrassing enough, one of the town’s papers ran a photo of Dos Santos’ exasperated mom scrubbing her son and identified her as his girlfriend. Minus the paint, Dos Santos bears no resemblance to Banner, a thoughtful scientist who transforms into the raging Hulk in times of danger.

SINFULLY DECADENT … SWITCH – BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!

As I briefly mentioned in both of my Good Reads mini reviews my main concern was with Schroeder’s character Cynthia. In A Little Harmless Sex I straight up disliked her character. I thought she was naïve when it can to Max and a cold-hearted bitch in regards to Anna but overall just totally dim-witted.

Needless to say I got a very shocking surprise by the time I finished A Little Harmless Pleasure. Cynthia’s character excelled far beyond what I hoped for when I discovered she was to be the heroine for the very delectable cajun Chris Dupree.

In my opinion Schroeder out did herself and appeased me more than I thought possible … like a Stanley Cup winning goal … that is how much I enjoyed the second book of her Harmless series. To think I have pushed this series off for so long has me completely baffled and quite possibly deserving of a swift reprimand of the spanking variety. Hmm … maybe I can talk Evan into doing the honors! Okay, okay getting a little side tracked here so on with the review …

Meet The Characters …
Cynthia Myers is what you would stereotype as you typical high society southern belle who comes from an extremely prestigious and wealthy family and has a heartless bastard of a father to prove it. Growing up, she always did exactly as told no matter the cost toward her feelings or the outcomes that came about from such malicious and hateful actions. Cynthia’s position in the family doesn’t change in the eyes of an equally cold-hearted and callous mother nor her condescendingly pretentious brother who just so happens to be an exact but younger replica of her ruthless father.

When an argument arises in the Myer’s household because Cynthia wants to attend the wedding of her ex-fiancé Max ultimatums of disownment are thrown causing Cynthia to do what she must for the sake of her own sanity. With no other choice but to go with ulcer inflamed gut she revolts for the first time against the man she has feared her whole life.

Chris Dupree is a creole native for New Orleans who happens to own his own restaurant in the beautiful isles of Hawaii. But that is not what is special about Chris. He is a switch. What is a switch you ask? Well in this case it pertains to the man’s type of bed play. You see Chris is both dominant and submissive in the bedroom and this is where his problems lie because switches are not very well acknowledged in the BDSM lifestyle.

After leaving the lifestyle due to an unforeseen incident with his previous sub Chris is left suffering from guilt and feels he will never find the one that will be perfect for him. That is his outlook on life until … he meets Cynthia.

About Their Story …

Cynthia first meets Chris at his best friend’s wedding which just happens to also be her ex-fiancé when she barged into Max’s dressing room. Cynthia is so shocked by her sudden reaction to Chris that she finds herself flushing uncontrollably whereas Chris is immediately taken by her beauty and charm. As the evening progresses so do Cynthia’s seeds of rebellion by means of a little nudging from one encouraging yet spunky bride. So with some much needed champagne Cynthia develops some gumption and begins her tawdry attempt at seduction.

Little does she know that Chris is trying to be a gentleman and not take advantage of the situation even though he himself is beyond frustrated with his own desires. Giving in the passions that are ignited between them they go forth and end up having a blistering heat-filled one night stand.

The next morning is filled with continuing pleasures because neither can get enough of the other … that is until the afterglow of their exhilarated bliss ebbs and recedes … mixed emotions begin to shed light on reality. Now that Chris has tasted temptations finest feelings he thought were dormant have resurfaced and that Cynthia is the one he’s been searching for all this time. Sensing that Cynthia craves the same sexual needs and desires as he does he plans to initiate her into the lifestyle in order to liberated the true beauty that is hidden underneath.

Final Thoughts …
From the first chapter I was drawn in … being able to witness Chris and Cynthia’s relationship blossom and grow truly changed my original feelings towards Cynthia’s character when I first met her in A Little Harmless Sex. I found myself not only cheering her on but caring more about her as her character grew into the strong and confident woman she became by the end of the book. You will equally love both Chris and Cynthia as you observe the bonds and friendships that are created which is all brought to you from an inside view of dominance and submission with all the feelings and emotions from both characters.

On a side note …
Although I felt the romance in this book was very sweet and at times tender-hearted it is not your average romance based read … whereas A Little Harmless Sex felt more like sugar kink to me … this book really takes more of a look into the BDSM lifestyle. A journey into the discovery of dominance and submission, the power felt behind the role as a Dom or Domme and the emotions that are revealed when experiencing what it means to truly submit. Let me state this now as a warning that these scenes are open and very blunt especially when it comes to the first ménage scene. I mean for me I enjoyed witnessing the passions the developed but then again you know I like my kink to sizzle. So if this is something you tend to shy away from then I would advise you that you have been warned first hand because it only gets more blistering the deeper you get into the Harmless series.

Favorite Moments & Quotes …

• The need to curl up in a ball and cry almost overwhelmed her but she pushed it back, knowing that later she would have the time for that. “I’m not the one who had to beg her daughter for money.” Her mother opened her mouth to shoot back, but Cynthia had had enough. “Just go. I don’t need any more dramatic statements for you. Be sure to tell Father that from now on, not to send you to do the dirty work. Tell him to be a man and do it himself”

• Chris didn’t think he’d ever get enough of her. Did she know how she affected him? How with each little sigh she was killing him by inches? The need to tell her of his feelings, to tell her he loved her, almost overwhelmed him, but he knew she wasn’t ready. If he proclaimed it now, she wouldn’t believe him, and worse, she would run. He couldn’t have that.

Chris leaned down to kiss her temple and smiled as she snuggled closer to him. HE just hoped it wouldn’t take much more to convince her of it because he didn’t know how long he could hold back the words.

•She bit her lip, trying her best not to let her emotions bubble over and embarrass both of them. No one, other than Anna, had ever pushed her, believed in her ability. To have the one man who meant the most to her encourage her, well, it was almost too much. He squeezed her hand. The simple gesture reassured and calmed her. It was as though he knew exactly what she needed.

• The ruby red sleeveless sweater she wore enhanced the tan she’d gotten in the last six weeks. The bit of color had added warmness to her features and accentuated the thin line of gold that rimmed those blue eyes. Humidity had taken control of her hair, casueing it to curl. The multitude of highlights from the sun now wove through her heavy locks. Need slipped under his skin, and he suddenly found himself ravenous. He craved to slide his hands into her mane as she closed that wicked mouth over his cock. WICKEDLY DELICIOUS … FRIENDS DO MAKE BETTER LOVERS!

After reading and enjoying Callum by Melissa Schroeder I decided to give her Harmless series a whirl. The title alone piqued my curiosity – A Little Harmless Sex … what’s not to like … I mean HELLO that there should have clued you in that this book was right up my alley because y’all know I be lovin’ me some erotica almost as much as my paranormal!

Meet The Characters …
Maxwell Chandler and Anna Dewinter have been best friends since their childhood. With both families sharing close relations with the other it’s no surprise that together they grown up sharing a special connection with one another. Through the ups and downs of teenage adolescence to their daily adult lives Max has been there for Anna as she has been there for him. Anna has had a crush on Max for quite some time, ever since that first kiss so many years ago, but unfortunately for her Max has always treated her as the little sister he never had. Or so she thought …

Max has always cared for Anna until that brotherly love turned to an awareness of the forbidden kind in his eyes that one brief moment when the two of them shared a kiss back when he had come home during a college break. A moment so special and yet neither acted upon it further.

About Their Story …

10 years later …

Max, a successful businessman at his family owned company Chandler Industries and his fiancé Cynthia Myers have just decided that maybe marriage isn’t right for the two of them. Wait a minute, who am I kiddin’ … she decided to drop him like a hot potato during lunch of which he was paying for … naturally. All the while not far do the street there was Anna sitting at her restaurant/coffee house The Last Drop breaking up with her current beau, an emotionally over dramatic artist.

Anna, who is a feisty 27 year old who is more free-spirited they any woman Max has ever known has had an epiphany when she discovers from Max that the wedding is canceled. For the first time since they have been friends they are both without a significant other tying them down. This is clause for a celebration … a Break-up Dinner Celebration … with enchiladas and margaritas!! As you can imagine too much tequila later, on both their parts, leads to a very steamy and passionate night filled with delectable mouth-watering sex. Just a little sex between two friends to test the waters they have been doing without. Where’s the harm in that? None, right???

Well, needlesstosay the next morning arrives with the afterglow of blissful pleasures and awkward mixed emotions when reality sets in. Now that Max has had a taste of what the wicked and insatiable Anna has had to offer all these years a primal need and a surge of possessiveness urges him to claim her as his. For he feels he can never see himself without her … wrapped in his arms … tousled and sated in his bed … living life to the fullest by his side … ever again. But regardless of his … feelings Max knows he has a problem on his hands in regards to claiming Anna’s heart forever. That problem being she’s the love ‘em and leave ‘em type always keeping her relations with men on casual side. But don’t fear for him just yet, for Max has a plan to swoon her off her feet and prove that together their love can prevail no matter the struggle it will take for to not only get but keep when all is said and done.

Anna being the stubborn woman she is never loved a man long enough to ever consider their words or action to be promising ever since the day Freddy Swanson betrayed her leaving her forever scarred and broken-hearted. So now that the friendship line between her and Max has been irreversibly distorted she fears it will bring an end to their easy fun-loving companionship. However, the passion they share is so deliciously irresistible she can’t keep her hands off him time after time until her heart catches in the middle of all the negligence of sex that life as we know it turns that casualness into something she fears most … love.

Final Thoughts …

I enjoyed this book immensely … the hero and heroine worked out perfectly once they conquered the inner battles that surfaced whenever doubt came into play. Their chemistry was off the wall and kept me drooling for more. Especially when it come to Max and he type of bed play. You see Anna discovers that Max is a bit controlling when it comes to actions in the bedroom. His mannerisms are something that Anna finds to be a wicked surprise because it is so out of character for Max to act with such behavior. His demeanor leaves her with such shock that she is so unbelievably titillated that her body tingles with heat and desire.

A Little Harmless Sex was a fast and fun read. Reading about these two characters who could not be more opposite even if they tried was not only very sweet to see unveiled but rather amusing as well. With Max’s tenacity and Anna’ spunkiness it was both adorable and romantic at the same time even if there were huddles by means of Cynthia and Freddy to add a little tension throughout the story is just what it need to make the ending more then satisfying.

Favorite Moments …

• When her words finally registered, he realized he was standing there staring at her like some horny sixteen-year-old. Swallowing hard, Max stepped back. Anna brushed by him, her fingers sliding over his free hand. The scent of her – wildflowers and musky woman – surrounded him, enticing him. When he raised his hand to scrub his face, it shook. Every cell in his body screamed for relief, for him to grab her, strip her out of that damn dress and plunge his cock deep inside her wet, hot sex.

• Max proved Saturday night he could control her in bed, and in her mind that wasn’t a good thing. It damn near scared her to death to know exactly what he could do to her. It wasn’t just his lovemaking, but her reaction to it. She knew each time they went to bed together, he gained a little more of her soul. Soon, she would do anything to please him, and that was a position she’d promised herself she would never be in again. Max probably knew that and had plans to use it to gain what he want. She would not allow that. It was about time he realized it before it went to far. Which , if she were honest, it already had.

• Anna didn’t think, not before this moment, that he would mean those feelings for her. Max was mixing those things up because of their prior friendship. She’d accepted long ago she wasn’t the type of woman who inspired that in a man, but as he continued his gentle assault, nipping at her bottom lip, he kept his eyes open. Heat curled in the pit of her stomach. Even though it was not as demanding as most of Max’s kisses, Anna knew that this one could be her undoing. Because while her body responded, so did her heart. She wanted to shrink away from the feelings bombarding her. Arousal and fear twisted together, pulling her further under his spell. What she saw in his eyes scared the hell out of her, but what he was doing to her mind and heart was by far worse.

{March 27, 2012} Spring Break Blues …

So today was the first day back to campus after a very speedy and short lived Spring Break and as I was attending my first class of the day (Western Civ 2) I heard the most heart wrenching story first thing in the morning as my classmate were all pouring through the door trying to get themselves situated. A fellow classmate of mine named Jack came in looking rather rough so I was feeling rather drab myself so I wasn’t going to pick on him … well need-less-to-say big mouth Zach sitting next to me didn’t take ques from me and let things alone. From that moment Jack said he hadn’t slept for 3 days so naturally one assumes with it being Spring Break that Jack partied a little too hard … not so much. You see him and his wife were expecting their first child together … Sophia was her name to be and with all of us knowing that Jack;s wife was due to go on April 8 … Easter. Come to find out that in the mist of my congratulating him I saw it … the sadness in his eyes and then I knew that the 3 days of no sleep was not due the joy of being a newly proud papa and that something bad had happened. I didn’t want to pry but I sensed that he needed to get something off his chest so I provided a proverbial shoulder for him to lean on and what he shared with me was not what I was expecting to hear.

Jack began by telling me about this dream he had on Tuesday morning and in his dream he saw a girl around his age and although she was grown he sensed that he knew who she was and that she was so beautiful … face like her mother and blue eyes like her dad. And as he is staring at her he noticed that her lips were about to move as if she were going to say something and the words that fell from her lips were I Love You Daddy … then he woke up. You see Jack had a funny feeling from having that dream that he encouraged his wife to going to the hospital just to be sure everything with Sophia was going smoothly while he went to a job interview that his wife refused to let him miss because she said she felt fine. 4 hours later after Jack’s grandmother dropped him off at the hospital to check on his wife and their precious Sophia and what he saw stopped he dead in his tracks … his wife in a hospital bed with red swollen eyes and as she noticed him the tears began again as she was saying I’m sorry, I’m so sorry …

Just thinking about him telling me about this dream has me choked up. Apparently within the 4 hours from when Jack’s wife arrived the doctors could not get a read on little Sophia heart. As he told me this my heart spattered into a million pieces because I know how excited they were for their little girl and for Sophia to be taken from them just shy of joining the world is just truly truly heart breaking. Moments like these make me question faith and proves that fate is a fickle fickle bitch.

BEYOND EMOTINAL … TENDER-HEARTED AND BITTERSWEET

Have you ever had that feeling, you know the one where you are so filled to the brim with overwhelming emotions and are sitting down to write your thoughts on what you just read but just can’t get past the tears to begin writing. Well if there has ever been a book that I have read that has put a smile on my face and tears to my eyes from beginning to end it would be this book here. I find myself literally kicking myself in the ass for putting this off for the last couple reads.

Ms. Dalton put so much detail into these characters that there is no way that you can read this book and not connect with them. the level of compassion, care and love that is captured in the pages of this story is truly breath-taking. We know all along what is going to enviably happen but are not quite prepared when chaos and pandemonium strike. That is how connected to these characters you become. It’s like you were are physically a part of it all from beginning to end (at least for me). And as you may or may not know I am the type of person who is very in touch with my emotions, especially when I get lost in a book … therefore I am the first to admit to crying. While reading The Reluctant Dom, I was drawn and hooked from page one. Oh and I’m not talking light water works here … I’m telling you that when things got deep (and trust me they get deep) I was straight out bawling … FULL BLOWN TEARS with SNOT and ALL!! Yeah I know you are picturing a hot mess that is not a pretty site at all! The Reluctant Dom is the first culprit to causing me such anguish. Okay, okay that is not the whole truth the first one I honestly have to say was Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon. (I’ll post my review of that later.)

The Characters …

Kaden and Seth have been friends their whole lives (a scan of 40+ years) which in my opinion is phenomenal. Kaden has always been there to lend a hand for Seth through life’s ups and downs and in Seth case many many downs … three marriages and divorces on top of the untimely catastrophe of the construction company which not only affected Seth financially but mentally as well. With Kaden, his wife Leah has also been along for the journey of their friendship for the last 20 years of her marriage to Kaden. She took care of Seth after a hernia surgery that left him bed-ridden and dealt with his moodiness after numerous marriages/divorces all while enjoying rides on the back of his bike … well that was before wife #3 put an end to that simple pleasure.

But now the tables have turned and it is Kaden who needs Seth’s support in many ways … with Kaden dying he needs to break Seth into his Master/slave lifestyle to aid in the care of his wife Leah after he is gone. While struggling to accept this heart-breaking news Seth is asked to step up and discover the lifestyle he never knew existed between his two best friends and what will be required of him in ways he never would have expected when it comes the the wishes of his best friend and the woman they both care for. To Seth’s surprise he learns that how he views his friendship with Kaden over the years is exactly how Kaden has viewed his friendship with Seth. It is beautiful how you discover that Kaden though being the successful one in the relationship highly values his friendship with Seth. Seth has never asked for anything in regards to Kaden’s success unlike his vulturous family … namely his sister so in Kaden’s mind Seth always saw him as just Kaden … his friend, not the meal ticket his sister hopes to cash in on someday. Kaden quote … “he could be a bum and Seth would still love him as a friend”.

As the story unfolds we learn that Leah has always loved Seth and not just as a friend … he has starred in many of her naughtier fantasies. This came about from her dislike of Seth’s wives. They were just not right for him. And Kaden has made sure Seth knows this and that he is more than fine with him that Leah acts on her fantasies. Seth needed to know this in order for Kaden to start him on this journey of becoming the strong and physical lover that Seth will need to be in order to maintain the health and well-being of Leah. So I really respect and love that Seth never assumed that it was okay to just act on his lust for Leah no matter the situation that he was in. He saw her as what she was … his dearest friend’s wife. Seth’s lust was a desire he wanted to explore but at the same time truly frightening to feel. Because for Seth the feeling of wanting to be desired by Leah meant it had to be at the expense of Kaden’s life, which he was not ready to let end. Although Seth and Leah’s romantic involvement was slowly coming together I felt it was handled brilliantly. The sex was never gratuitous or unjustifiable … the feelings these three characters have for one another is astonishing and beautiful while truly genuine and heartfelt … for them it just felt real if not prefect.

Even though we are dealing with death as one of the main focal points of this book the knowledge we gain through the relationship of Seth, Kaden and Leah shows us that dealing with the death of a loves one is never easy and by far never at the top of anyone’s bucket list. Seth has realistic moments of grief and confusion when trying to accept that he is not just losing his only true best friend but also part of his soul. But Kaden being true to his character controls everything up to the very end and then beyond. With Kaden’s guidance Seth and Leah manage to carry on but still feel that Kaden is part of their lives.

The epilogue was extraordinary and by far one of my most favorite scenes told from their friend Tony’s point-of-view. Which in my opinion is nice because we get to see from an outside perspective on how Seth and Leah are truly making out after losing Kaden.

A small snippet …

We had a great dinner. Seth accidentally dumped wine on his shirt and went to change. To make conversation more than anything, I said to Leah, “You two looked good the other night.”
She blushed a little, but smiled. “It’s been an adjustment for both of us.”

“He’s really standing up to you.”
She grinned. “You noticed that, huh?”

“Well, the way you led Kaden around. He let you get away with murder. You and I both know that.”

She dropped her voice. “Seth put his foot down. He told me if I wanted to get naked in public, other than teaching classes, then I would have to wear a chastity belt for a month first.”
I laughed. “He’s territorial.”

She blushed again. “It’s okay though. I mean, he’s so different than Kade but he’s not jealous in a bad way. He’s protective in a different way. I just wish the three of us had had more time together. I feel bad for him. I sort of get a second chance. He doesn’t get another best friend.”

“He’s got you.”
“Yeah, but I’m just his wife. I can never be for him what Kaden was. I don’t think anyone can.”

Seth returned. After we finished eating, Leah cleared the table and shooed us into the living room. I noticed Seth walked by the bookcase next to the TV and reached out, gently stroked Kaden’s urn before taking his seat. It looked like an automatic action, something he probably wasn’t even aware he did anymore.

We shot the shit for a while, then I reached into my back pocket and handed him the envelope. I’d put off doing this for a couple of weeks, considered mailing it to them but it was as if seeing them at the club the other night was my nudge from the hereafter to make sure I kept my promise to my old friend.

He stared at it for a long moment without speaking before he finally, carefully slipped his thumb under the flap and opened it. Inside, an index card and six small, silver ID tags. Slave collar tags, I suspected.

I never asked Kaden what was in the envelope. It wasn’t my business.

Seth wiped his eyes as he read the index card, then laughed and fingered the tags. Then he looked at me, shook his head, and smiled. “I wonder how many more of these he’s salted all over the place.”

I shrugged. “That’s the last one I had.”

He rubbed his thumb over the tags. “Kaden the control freak strikes again. How the hell did he know?” he mused.

“Know what?”

He handed me one of the tags. Two sets of initials, Kaden’s, and … but Seth’s wasn’t right. I handed it back to him. Seth smiled. “I changed my last name when Leah and I got married. I wouldn’t let her change hers. I added Kade’s last name to mine, hyphenated it so it wouldn’t fuck up my VA benefits.” He shook his head, rubbed his thumb over the tags again.

That explained it. How had he known? Kaden gave me the sealed envelope months before his death.

Final Thoughts …

But regardless of the tears The Reluctant Dom is a book that I will cherish forever not because it’s about BDSM, not because its considered erotica romance, not because the heroine has suffered a traumatic and abusive past and not because its about true relationships but because of the deep-seeded love and selfless sacrifice, the living and dying of how you want, on your terms regardless of society’s acknowledgements and what is deemed normal. This be a future re-read for many a years to come. The Reluctant Dom has wormed its way into my heart and my top favorites. It is my hopes that Ms. Dalton will plan a sequel because I would really enjoy seeing the return of these well loved characters. Perhaps Seth and Leah can help Tony find his ‘right’ woman.

{March 22, 2012} Days of Pure Laziness …

Okay just so y’all know I am currently on Day 5 … that’s right Day 5 of my Spring Break and I have been a completely lazy bastard!! There I said it … Yes … ME! I guess I should admit that when my break began I was all gun-ho with this whole plan to set things in motion the right way so that my break would be on the more motivated end of the spectrum and at least a bit more productive then usual.
Well guess what … I haven’t done a damn thing except work, sleep, snack and read (the last should have been an automatic given. LoL!)
So now that Day 5 is upon us and to get the proverbial ball rolling today’s mission is as follows …

Return cat carrier to bestie …
Purchase new book shelf …
Installment of new book shelf …
Reorganize books for the old and the above aforementioned book shelves …
Finally post a Review or two from the mountainous stack I have piling up …

I know it’s not a very detailed list of events but what can I say … it’s already 4 in the evening.
So after I get my ass motivated enough to leave the coziness of my bed I will let you know the days progress.

{February 27, 2012} Authors After Dark Convention 2012 Reading Challenge

Evening Y’all! I figured I would take the time to share my latest most wonderfully fantastical news …

I’m here to tell y’all that I am 1 of 320 lucky bastards that are attending the Authors After Dark Convention hold in none other then the City that Care Forgot … N’awlins with 80 … that’s right you are reading this correctly … 80 Amazing & Talented Authors!! I’m so damn excited that I will probably be more nervous then a cat in a room full of rocking chairs by the time I actually get there. Books, Booze and Tattoos … OH MY! So much fun and excitement all in one ritzy hotel located on the infamous Bourbon Street! This is my very first trip to New Orleans that I’m hoping to not only have a blast with some good peeps (namely my bestie Tina and my GoodReads bestie Kat best probably known to you as Miss Smitten With Bad Boy Heroes) but experience what is so infamous about the location … from the Absinthe to the Voodoo and the Jambalaya that falls in between!! Okay now on to the purpose of this blog … (besides my uber never-ending excitement)

{September 18, 2011} Week 4 Summary …

Okay kiddos I am back once again to fill in you on my class … the exciting world of Web Design 1. This week we focus on more CSS but more in depth then before. If you have time to try it out you really should give it a whirl because you never know what you can create unless you give it a go. But anywho, back to the point …

With CSS one of the key things to know is about selectors.
There are 3 types of selectors … HTML, ID and Class.

HTML Selectors specify how any HTML tag should be styled across a web page.

Example …

CSS Rule … H2 { color! #0F0! }
HTML Rule … (H2) Email (/H2)

Class selectors are free agents that can be applied to ANY HTML tag multiple times.

Example …

CSS Rule … (.)light
HTML Rule … (P class=”light”)

ID selectors identify major page sections and are unique on each page. Most custom names use a ‘#’ in the rule.

Example …

CSS Rule … (#)masthead (color! green; text-align! center)
HTML Rule … (div id=”masthead”)Text Here(/div)

As a side note all CSS tags are coded with {braces} and all HTML tags are coded with end tags.

What else occured this week? Oh … I know we utilized Lynda.com and Adobe Photoshop to work with Web Backgrounds. Everything from design considerations for web backgrounds to creating a full-screen background image.

And now I will conclude this week’s summary with a final though … all in all I have to say after working with this week’s topics and practices made our creativeness all the more fun and unique at the same time. I mean I know I thought my resume turned out pretty nifty if I do say so myself. LoL!
